Playwright and Indian Theater in the latter 20th Century

Manjula Padmanabhan 
Manjula is a we know journalist, playwright, and artist.
Born in Delhi in 1953, She grew up in South East Asia and Europe.
She went to Bombay University getting a BA in Economics and and MA in History.
Her comic  Suki has appeared in the Sunday Observer, The Pioneer, and Business Line, she has also written science fiction and self illustrated children books, her most recent works being the Island of Lost Girls, and Mama, What is the NIGHT?
Many of her works feature themes of strong women in the face of violence and adversity.
She currently writes a column call Here,There,& Elsewhere for BLink
Her plays include Lights Out!(1984), The Artists Model(1995), Sextet(1996), among others.
Harvest(1997) which comments on the relationship between the first and third worlds won Onassis Prize for Theatre, in Greece.

Indian Theatre in the Latter 20th Century 
India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic on January 26, 1950
India People's Theatre Association(IPTA) was formed in 1942 to explore theatre as a way to create a cultural identity.
Vijay Tendulkar and Mahesh Dattani where two of the most influencial Indian playwrights of the latter half of the 20th century
Vijay Tendulkar wrote plays that focus on social comentary including  Sakharam Binder (Sakharam, The Binder) and Ghashiram Kotwal (Officer Ghashiram), etc.
Mahesh Dattani explore the individual and status in his plays Where There's a Will in 1988, Dance Like a ManBravely Fought The Queen, etc.
Both of these play writes themes can be seen in harvest and portrayed post colonial ideas of looking for ones identity after the colonial power has left.
